HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I would live with friends because I feel more comfortable that way plus it gives me more freedom.
Personal comments:
The International Relations Dept at Belgrano is very helpful and always assists you with finding a room with a family close to the university and also has a listing of apartments available. The only drawback from staying with a family is that it is expensive (US$350 per month with breakfast). This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Las canitas is a very good quarter for bars, having dinner etc.; museum in san telmo; asio de cuba in puerto madero; rumi;palermo viejo for shopping and restaurants etc.etc.etc. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
My Spanish was good before going to Bs As but I wasn't prepared for how different the Spanish spoken in Argentina is from the one spoken in Spain. My first month was very difficult but then it all got easier gradually. I've got no problems communicating now (but I still have to concentrate a lot while listening though!). EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
Family Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
In the categories in which I spent less I did so because prices in Argentina concerning these categories arr lower. I spent more for housing because in Viena I live at home & therefore don´t have to pay for it. I payed more for travelling in Argentina than in Austria because I travelled a lot more than I usually do in Austria. Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food, Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
That it takes a while to get to know a big city like Bs As and that it's always a bit difficult at first and that the Argentinian Spanish was so difficult and different. In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I think Belgrano has some good courses but do try a few before you decide so that you'll have a good academic experience. The social aspect is excellent: the university organised parties, free tango lessons etc, really made you feel at home and was always there if you needed to ask about something. FINAL COMMENTS
Get to know the locals, explore the city because it's got many 'hidden treasures' and also take the opportunity to see the rest of the country (eg Mendoza, Salta, Cataratas de Iguazú, Bariloche, Puerto Madryn etc) and the rest of the region (eg Peru, Chile and Brazil, which are all fantastic!).
