I can't remember the name of the place, but my favorite bar was a Jazz Bar. It was very cool and very intimate. I heard that Bagur is a nice place, but I never got to go there. Mambo was okay from what I can remember. I don't drink but I love to dance and Mambo and Bagur offered the best dancing!

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why?
I was dependent on my host family (which was very good at the time), but if I were to go back, I would like to be more independent, just for the experience.

The host family that I was with was GREAT! My "mother" did everything for us and really looked out for us. The university was great and accomodated us as much as possible. They took us on outings around Valladolid.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Government assistance
Other sources of funding:
Personal savings
Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work
Personal spending habits
I had to buy a calling card to contact my family (their phone bill was high). I did more traveling in Europe than I do at home so that cost more. I probably spent the most during my two weeks of individual travel because of hostels, food, entrance fees to museums, etc.

I love Valladolid- it's a little-big town, and it has a great university community. It offers a lot to do both socially and culturally, and the shopping is great.

Languages
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
It was great to be immersed in the language. The natives were very understanding with my Spanish, and sometimes they would even try to speak to me in English (to practice). Overall, it was great experience.
