Location of Lisbon is excellent to travel! You can visit of course whole portugal, but also south of Spain, north of Spain, Madrid, Marocco (great country!),... Lisbon isn't always so safe (more or less normal, because it's a big city), but if you just take care a bit, then it will be ok!
