Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (UTL)
Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Alameda de Santo António dos Capuchos 1, 1169-047 Lisboa, Portugal, Lisbon
Description:
The Technical University of Lisbon (UTL) was created in 1930, as a confederation of older Faculties, and comprises, nowadays, those of Veterinary Medicine; Agricultural Sciences; Economics and Business Administration; Engineering, Social and Political Sciences; Architecture; and Human Kinetics. Despite being one of the largest Portuguese State Universities, the UTL has always adopted a decentralised organisational model. All Faculties have an ample degree of autonomy in pedagogic, scientific, administrative and financial matters.

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Portuguese
Was learning Portuguese a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your Portuguese?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Basic phrases Personal comments:
Quote of my main professor after I just arrived in the country and just started my language course: " You don't speak my language ...you don't understand my culture! You don't understand my culture ... you can not do architecture in my country!" I guess that explains it all. I didn't expect my naitive language, but the international language of design ... ENGLISH? I just started to learn the local language, shall I know all the termenology straight away? On top of that did my uni not arrange a course. We found out about it by accident ... it happened at another uni. But just a few days before the lady in charge told us there wouldn't be one. So we missed the first 3 lessons.
