Description:
Bien que déjà mentionnée au Moyen-Age, la présence d'un enseignement supérieur en Savoie remonte véritablement au lendemain de la dernière guerre mondiale. C'est ainsi que, progressivement, furent institutionnalisées, par conventions avec les universités voisines, diverses formations littéraires, juridiques et scientifiques.
En 1960, création du Collège Scientifique Universitaire. En 1963, transformation en Collège Littéraire Universitaire. Ensuite, en 1970, l'établissement devint Centre Universitaire de savoie (Lettres, langues, Sciences Humaines - Sciences et des Techniques) rattaché aux facultés de Grenoble, avant de devenir enfin, le 27 juin 1979, une Université de plein exercice. Cependant, durant ces années de mutation, l'Université n'a cessé de se développer.
La création de l'IUT d'Annecy, en 1973, avec deux premiers départements (Génie Mécanique et Techniques de commercialisation), l'obtention de nouvelles habilitations de premier, second et troisième cycles, l'ouverture de l'Ecole d'Ingénieurs de Chambéry (ESIGEC) en 1988, et l'Ecole Supérieure d'Ingénieurs d'Annecy (ESIA) en 1992 (anciennement Faculté Annécienne des Sciences et des Techniques, créée en 1981) sont là pour en témoigner.

In a Univeristy such as Chambery there is likely to be a large groups of Erasmus students from all over the world who will have a common language of English and you have to make a real effort to find a french speaking crowd

Personal recommendation:
There is a real ski culture and it is worth trying some of the university ski trips as they are really good value for money and hassle free if you havent skied before.



FINAL COMMENTS

If you are travelling alone maybe staying in university accomodation will be an easy way to make french friends. Make the most of the good rail service as Paris is only a few hours away as is the south coast. It goes so fast so make the most of every day!

Personal recommendation:
I would reccomend the area, the culture is very friendly and accomodating. The University however I felt was accademicaly unorganised. I would definately reccomend the area, particular if you're interested in winter sports as this is a prime location for carrying these out.



FINAL COMMENTS

I had an amazing time, the key to having a good time is being outgoing, and independant. I would not have met so many wonderful people if I had not been both of these, and I know other people that had awful times, but in my opinion this was down to their lack of effort to integrate with the other students.

You don't get bed covers, pillows, kitchen utensils! Ease up on the clothes and bring more essential things! On the other hand, you will have a roommate most likely, so costs can be divided!

Personal recommendation:
Savoie University is amazing. Teachers (except for 1) were helpful and kind. Students took an interest in me and cared for my success. It's in a great location. Who else can see the Alpes from their campus!?



FINAL COMMENTS

This exchange experience changed my life. At first it was the hardest change I had ever made - and at the end, I didn't want to leave. I did not want to leave a country where travel is so easy and beautiful, and the people are warm and funny :)

Go and enjoy people, the landscape and the town!

It is a good oportunity to travel. Chambery is at one hour far from Geneva and the surroundings of this lovely town, which is located in the Alps, are very interesting.

Acommodation advices, that all documents have to be in the local language, how much money Erasmus is going to pay

The level of content is maybe not as high as in Germany but they have a different kind of studying that might improve personal skills better



FINAL COMMENTS

The best thing to learn the language and get in contact with people is -having a job, e.g. in a restaurant -joining travels, weekend trips like skiing -initiaton of parties and events, e.g. "Running dinner": the students of one semster cook (in teams)for the first semester and foreign students to get to know each other!

Quite a few things; there are cultural differences to what I'm used to, some things are better (e.g. travel on train & bus), some are worse. Not "different", not "special", just worse, and frankly, they take getting used-to or just ignoring. Maybe these are just minor things, but it's best to 'keep an open mind'.

Try not to be surprised by anything.



FINAL COMMENTS

Geneva and Lyon are the nearest major airports, I always got the Easyjet to Geneva, then a train. Chambery's airport is open during the winter skiing season, with flights to some towns in Britain.

apart from the desorganization in many things which you encounter quite often I was quite satisfied with the rest.

A beautiful region full of fascinating places, near the Swiss and Italian border. I recommend south of France as a destination of a longer travel.

A bit disorganised - but they all are in france, overall ok.
