Personal comments:
As people from Quebec ar speaking French with a different accent than people from Europe, it took me some time to adapt to their way of speaking. However, professors and teacher at the university are speakingan excellent French. SOme are speaking with a little accent, but not really that strong that you can't understand them.

Montreal and UQAM is a great place to study. Although, Montreal is in Quebec, it is a truly global city: almost everybody speaks in English, so it is a great way to practice it.

Personal comments:
A lot of self-discipline is required to speak french in Montreal if you are British as many people speak English. I was quite lucky and found friends who couldn't really speak English.
