HOUSING
by matildealmeida, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal
Economics, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? I believe that on campus students have a better opportunity to know and live with people from other different cultures. Also, it is a good opportunity to put our communication, cooperation and social skills to the test. However, universities in Milan are poor in terms of accommodation offer and conditions.
Personal comments:
There was no kind of accomodation at this university. It only provided personal help to find appartments for students to rent. In this area, i believe that, taking in account the difficulty of renting a house in italian big cities as Milan, the university had an important and valuable role near students. STUDENT LIFE
by Muri, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Night spots: Hollywood and Old Fashion.Via Naviglia and the Brera area are also areas with a good night life, full of pubs and cafes. The "Pinacoteca de Brera" (Art Academy)shouldn't be missed. And off course the wonderful Duomo di Milano and the Vitor Emanuel' galleries. Outside the city, not far away, there are several smaller towns that should be visited like Como, Bergamo or Verona This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Italian
Was learning Italian a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Italian How much did you improve your Italian?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
I went to Italy to learn italian and before leaving Belgium I studied basic sentences etc. by myself. During my stay in Italy I improved very fast thanks to contact with the local population. Afterwards I stayed in touched with many of them and I'm still using Italian on a regular basis, not only in my social but also in my professional life. The living standard is higher in Milan than in Lisbon. Everything is more expensive. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The vegetables and the fruit are much cheaper in the weekly markets than in the supermarkets. And the white brand' products are often of good quality. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
