Università di Bologna

University of Bologna, Via Zamboni 33, 40126 Bologna, Italy
3.97 / 5 based on 348 reviews.
Description:
The University of Bologna is about to celebrate its Ninth Centenary. The Studium at Bologna is thus the oldest in the western world.

The whole history of European universities has been profoundly influenced throughout the centuries by the University of Bologna. Evidence of this may be seen in the fact that many of the most important universities in Europe were established as a result of internal strife within the University of Bologna, or under the auspices of scholars from this University.

HOUSING
Personal assessment

KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Living in an apartment with other people didn't cause any problems for me. In the end, we were like a little family (all brothers and sisters) and that felt just great!
Personal comments:
Rooms in the city centre are quite expensive and most of the time you don't have much space. My appartment was just 10 minutes walk from the city centre and it was clean and not too expensive (250 Euro/month).

Language of instruction: Italian
Was learning Italian a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Italian
How much did you improve your Italian?
My level before: Basic phrases
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
As most Italians don't speak other languages you have to speak Italian. Also among Erasmusstudents Italian is often thé language. I guess because I met a lot of Spanish people and as I don't speak Spanish and they most of the times didn't speak English, Italian was the most appropriate language. And in the end you get used to thinking in Italian and it got even quite difficult to use English after a while!

Personal savings
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
Life is expensive in Italy, especially nightlife and as you have to enjoy every moment in this fabulous country I didn't really care this Erasmusstay was a quite expensive period in my life.
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Give parties at your appartment instead of going out in clubs! Learn to know Italian people so you can visit them and have a cheap stay in different parts of Italy!
