The University of Mannheim, despite being a relatively young university, is proud to be able to look back on a long tradition. The beginnings of academic life in Mannheim have their roots in the founding of the "Kurpfälzische Akademie der Wissenschaften" (Palatinate Academy of Sciences) in 1763.

With approximately 12,000 students, the University of Mannheim belongs to Germany's medium-large sized universities. The university also maintains contact with over 450 scientific institutions and research facilities throughout the world.
