Well, as Mannheim is not the funniest city in the world, you shouldn't miss the uniparties every thursday. Specially the ones in the summer, they take place in the "Schneckenhof" and they are open-air.

Housing
Type of housing: students' hostel
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It is funny to live in a student's hostel for one year because you get to know a lot of people, but if I had stayed more than one year, I would have rented a room in a flat. Once you know the people at uni, you want to have your own space sometimes.

It was cool to live with 9 others, there was always somebody in the kitchen to talk to. You learn a lot about different cultures (and how they cook!). But,it was very dirty, too...

Academic
Course recommendations
Don't take any finance courses, they are very difficult. Some teachers offer oral examinations for erasmus students. There are some courses from the Spezielle BWL that are like a seminar, only 20 -30 students per class, I recommend that.

Personal comments
The exams are too difficult because they sometimes give only 45 min. time to solve them! Univ. Mannheim is nº 1 or 2 at Germany's universities ranking, I guess they want to preserve that...!

I am half german, so I can't comment a lot on this point. I can only say that people from Mannheim have a strong accent when they talk, specially older people.

Personal spending habits
I live in Barcelona, and it is a expensive city. The night life in Germany in general is a bit cheaper because there is always a day in the week where you can have drinks at a studentprice. Travel around Germany is very expensive if you travel by train.
