HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? The chance to meet and interact with other German and international students while living on campus was invaluable for me and formed a big part of my learning process. The people were open, friendly and helpful. The accommodation was basic, but clean, roomy and comfortable. The student accommodation was located centrally, near both the city centre and the uni campus, making the lifestyle easy.

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Potsdam has an advantage for students whoose mother tongue is not German, in that is has a special faculty for German as a foreign language, which most unis dont offer. I found the choice of courses, the content and the teaching staff all of an extremely high standard. The only drawback was the library. It was small and its opening hours left a lot to be desired. I found myself relying mainly on the public libraries in Berlin.
My opinion of the university assessment

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
Government assistance Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
In Australia I lived with my parents, so did not have to contribute to rent, food and telephone costs. Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
The German Government here gives out financial assistance to students (including international students) who nominate their main residence as Potsdam and live here for the duration of their study - I suggest this be taken advantage of. Ask at the Studentwerk in Potsdam. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal recommendation:
teachers and students are very kind but it takes some time to get in touch with them, just hold on and everything will be fine, you can find yourself very faithful friends and very kind teachers at the university! FINAL COMMENTS
try to get a part time job and try to choose your location. if you get some additional informations about potsdam and Germany in general before arriving you will be ready to face everything much better: you can find somo student jobs through the student office (Studentenwerk)and once you are there you have to try to be always informed.
