Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
The chance to meet and interact with other German and international students while living on campus was invaluable for me and formed a big part of my learning process. The people were open, friendly and helpful. The accommodation was basic, but clean, roomy and comfortable. The student accommodation was located centrally, near both the city centre and the uni campus, making the lifestyle easy.

How can i begin?? Potsdam is on the outskirts of Berlin, Germany's capital and an amazing city by any standards. Definitely dont miss the Love Parade in Berlin. The nightlife in Potsdam is also really good. I recommend not only the nightlife, but also what both Potsdam and Berlin have to offer culturally and artistically to new comers.

Academic
Course recommendations
Potsdam has an advantage for students whoose mother tongue is not German, in that is has a special faculty for German as a foreign language, which most unis dont offer. I found the choice of courses, the content and the teaching staff all of an extremely high standard. The only drawback was the library. It was small and its opening hours left a lot to be desired. I found myself relying mainly on the public libraries in Berlin.

The German Government here gives out financial assistance to students (including international students) who nominate their main residence as Potsdam and live here for the duration of their study - I suggest this be taken advantage of. Ask at the Studentwerk in Potsdam.
