HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Student accomodation
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? I like the overall atmosphere living togehter with students from Switzlernad as well as mates from all of the world.
Personal comments:
My personal accomodation was indeed very satisfying, and the relation cost-comfort was very good - specially considering the relatively high general costs in Switzerland. The most important point is though that I got to know a lot of other student with whom I'll probably will have a life-long friendship. STUDENT LIFE
by Andreas, Växjö Universitet, Vaxjo, Sweden
European Studies, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Zürich offers a wide range of cafés, bars and clubs. The lovely Niederddorf area is the best tip as well as the red light district around the Langstrasse. A favourite place is the bar/cafë Aquarium with good drinks and ice cream and - not least - a great view of River Limmat. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
In Zürich, the students have zillions of courses to choose among. As an exchange student it's very easy to pick different courses corresponding to the personal interests.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
In some courses the teaching methods was a bit too conventional. I would have preferred a bit more discussing and interaction between students and teachers. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German How much did you improve your German?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
Already before I went to Switzlernad I had a good knowledge of the German language, since I had studied it at university in Sweden and at a language school in Bonn. Therefore I didn't experience any difficulties during my stay. On the other hand, my everyday language has improved and become more varied. EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
It was not legal for me to work Personal spending habits:
The level of cost is higher in Switzerland than in Sweden, which made the year abroad quite a costy experience. I wanted to visit many interesting places and spent quite a fortune on travelling. The experience was worth the price though. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Best deal to get food are the spledid supermarkets Coop and Migros, which are both fresh and good. Also, the university restaurant is cheap and very good. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I consider that I was well prepared for my stay, but I wish I had had a better overview in health-insurance matters, whiched caused me som difficulties. Since my previous experience of studying in Bonn I was socially well prepared and got to know lots of interesting people. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Visit a course which you can't follow at home. Try to take advantage of the great diversity of the social programs offered. FINAL COMMENTS
Switzerland is a great place to spend a year. The academic system is very well organized and offers great opportunities. The country is stunningly beautiful and it's easy to travel around. The skiing is marvellous - of course! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
