HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: in a residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Because I now know that it's not impossible to find a nice appartement in the city (lyon) which doesn't cost a fortune, and I'd really love to have more space, especially a seperate room for my kitchen(ette)!
Personal comments:
The room is quite small, but it's ok. Once you get to know some people in the residence it's lovely, because you can join them but retourn to your privacy whenever you want. Beside that, it's not too easy to get to know people here (everybody having his own studio). It's disappointing that the electricity cost is not included in the rent, which is already quite high. Aditionally, you have to care yourself about telefon-line and internet, or TV. This costs are extra, as well. But generally, there are residences which are worse, and better as well, naturally; but "ca va", it's possible to live here ;).

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
"Ambassade"- if u like house music in nice, cosy athmosphere. "Ayer's rock" - a MUST for exchange students! "Down Under" - the same as above, but more for "drinking before dancing" in another location. "Mi Barrio" - viva la vida latina!!

ACADEMIC       4.5 / 5
My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
Inform yourself as well as possible before chosing one. Ask former students about there opinion. Marketing courses (in international and frech-classes) are very good!

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.

Language difficulties
Social
KEY:
No problems.
I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
As I came here it was sometimes difficult to follow the courses. But now, after 4 months only, I've no longer problems in understanding neither the profs (mostly) nor the students. I'm even able to follow class-discussions! :) I love to learn slang words and expressions; I already know a few!

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
A private grant
Other sources of funding:
Family
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
Because when I'm home I don't travel as much. When I go out I rather choose the places with lower entrance costs, here it's quite expensive. Everything (food, drinks, ..) is more expensive than in my home country. Well, the thing with the phone...
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Hmm, choose your phone operator well... And be aware that there is always enough money on your bank account to cover recent costs; if there is too little money, the fees are incredible!! (france telecom, electricity, mobile, ..)
