Personal spending habits
Housing in a university hall is really cheap, especially with the help from the CAF (that everyone can get): I paid 100 euros/month ! Trains are not so expensive either, especially when you have a reduction ticket called "carte 12-25". Enjoy your time travelling, which means you will be spending more than at home, but it's such a beautiful country. Drinks in bars and clubs are really expensive in France.

Course recommendations
In the beginning of the semester, ask the little books who describe the available classes at the secretary of your department. Go to every class that seems nice in the first weeks and then decide.

If you want to improve your language skills, ask for a room in a "native French hallway" when you check in at the Grandmont desk people (most foreigners are put together in one hallway): you'll love it. It's the best way to speak French every day and to be immersed in the French culture (with French cooking and parties). French people look quite close-mouthed at first, but in such a hallway you'll soon become closer and even become real friends !

I went to learn to speak more fluidly, and I was very happy to be assigned a room in a hallway with nothing but native French people (most foreigners are put together in one hallway): this was awesome, it's the best way to meet French people and to really speak French every day. If you're coming for the language: ASK EXPLICITLY for a room in a "French hallway" when you check into Grandmont, they will be happy to give it to you.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
But only at the renovated part of the Grandmont university Hall, because this is the ONLY hall in the whole city which is nice to live in : clean rooms, own shower in the room, very secure, 10 students in one hallway with 1 big clean kitchen and a dining/party room and 2 toilets. One disadvantage: it's 5km out of town, so you need to take the bus everyday. BUT bus season tickets are really cheap.

If you consider living in a university hall, ask for a RENOVATED room in the Grandmont complex (see point 4), other halls are dirty and unsafe (even l'auberge de jeunesse).

La Place Plum(ereau) is famous and really very nice, both in winter and summer. Parties organized by (international) students are fun too.
