Nightlife is not applicable, as I hardly went out, moreover I was at some friends'. Cost of living is extremly high in Canada except everything that has to do with energy. This is also the reason, why the accomodation cost was lower. Travelling is also much more expensive because of the long distances and poor municipal transportation facilities.

Food is very expensive. In autumn there are some stands where farmers offer vegetable and fruits which is not that expensive. Fish is also affordable. Look at special offers and buy stockable goods in advance (cornflakes, flour,...).

Languages
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
In the beginning it was difficult to make myself understood, but I succeeded quickly, I started to talk. It was much more difficult to understand the slang but people from different regions in the country have the same problems. In the end I really liked to talk in French and now I miss it. I know, that I don't always talk without mistakes but I dare to speak and everybody understands what I mean and I am able to understand the others

Overall
I wish I had known...
High cost of living; Quebec is a province that is a little bit retarded in the standard of living. It takes a long time till natives become interested in somebody else.

In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
There is a lot to learn, but teachers are helpful and friendly. It takes some time till natives get interested but once they are interested it is very agrable and they help you as well in the classes,...

Final comments
Go there at least 2 weeks in advance and you will find a fine appartment from the beginning on. It may be good to live outside the Campus, as you get to know other people more easily. Travel tips: Gaspesie and Toronto are an absolute must!!

Academic
Course recommendations
They were highly demanding: lots of works to do, but not many teamworks. Students over there don't know how to work in team, neither to present a subject.

At the beginning I was not used to multiple choice question which was the main part in the exams. This was the most difficult thing of the foreign language. However, I managed them!

There were hardly any good bars, they are all too dark or/and too loud; best one was however the Turf, which had an Irish touch; But we met us normally at somebody's appartment

Housing
Type of housing: first I lived in a students residence, than I moved
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The students' residence are too big and too anonymous, there are no cosy places; so I was right to move to an appartment, which I shared with 2 native speakers
