My favorite night spot by far is La Suite. It is best to reserve a table for a late dinner so you can keep it throughout the night. The food is also great.

I lived at La Maison des Etudiantes (for women only) with students from all over the world. This gave the opportunity to learn about many other cultures, as well as the French.

Languages
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.

My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
During my stay in Paris I learned it is most important to be comfortable and confident in your language skills and to put them to use as often as possible. Even though most French spoke much better English than I did French, they were usually patient and helpful. There is no need to be embarrassed, as I often was. Speaking a language in real life experiences is the only way to learn it.

Personal comments
Many French families want English speaking babysitters to help their children with their English. I also found children are not at all scared to correct your French. This is very helpful and it doesn't hurt as bad when it comes from an eight year old.

Final comments
The program over all was great, but if you are not already an advanced speaker and you have the extra money I suggest investing in more French lessons. Also, working with children is an excellent way to improve your language skills.

Academic
Course recommendations
The class on the architectural history of Paris was amazing! Almost every class is scheduled to meet at a different spot in Paris where the professor gives the history and a lesson on the architecture of the place. The professor was excellent too. I would take the course over if I had the chance.
If your French is at the beginner or intermediate level I would suggest a more intensive language program. I feel students do not spend a sufficient number of hours a week in language courses to make much progress in a semester.
