HOUSING
by María Elena, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Madrid, Spain
Economics, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I'd like to share an appartment with some other young people, just to have some freedom, being responsible to clean it, etc.
Personal comments:
The price was really good ( being in Paris ), but the room was not big at all, the residence was not clean; also because of some students, and there was too much noise in the night. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
by Jose, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Madrid, Spain
Law, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
There's a super cafe where jazz concerts are played every night: Cafe Universal. Concerts are free, and you can have a nice experience right there.Adress: rue Saint Jacques, 268 (5 arrondissement). Anyway, everybody knows there's plenty to do in Paris if you have the time, so enjoy yourselves and try the experinece of discovering Paris by yourself! ACADEMIC
by María Elena, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Madrid, Spain
Economics, Erasmus
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
It was mainly a teacher talking and talking for hours, and this is tiring, so imagine for an international students; it's even more. I'd ask for more work at home, meaning to write some homework, to make some research, etc. More active.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Just what I said as recommendations before. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
Make friends with the other international students, they're the only people you'll speak French to all year. The preparatory language course is a good way of refreshing your language skills, and meeting people. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
by María Elena, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Madrid, Spain
Economics, Erasmus
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant French Government gave us 36 euros per month Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I live with my family so that's why I spent more money in housing or food, but less in telephone, because it's much cheaper ( I had an offer to call to Spain ); there're many offers for students. I spent almost the same in travelling because I like to travel a lot, so here and there I spent a lot. And the nightlife is more expensive in Paris than in Madrid. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Yes, of course ;) I'd recommend people to make a list with all money you spend, just to control it a bit, or they could have some surprises at the end of the month. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
If something goes wrong, there is no support system in place. I got seriously ill and had to come home for a month, and neither my home nor host university helped me in any way, or offered me advice. I got no compensation in my exams, which I failed, then had to work extra hard in the second semester to make up the marks. Also, photocopy every official document you have at least 10 times, and bring a lot of passport photos, you need them for everything! In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
The university itself isn't in a good area, but it's very accessible from Paris. There's a big international community, and there is a good sports centre on campus, with a swimming pool. FINAL COMMENTS
I had a fantastic year, Paris is a beautiful city, but not the easiest Erasmus year going, academically or socially. The Irish College was a great place to meet people, but I should have moved out earlier to integrate better. Having said that, I'd do the year all over again if I could!
