Description:
The University Paris X in its 35 years of existence has become one of France's very finest universities. Situated at only five minutes from the center of "la Défense", it is a multidisciplinary university. Nanterre proposes prestigious study courses in the fields of the humanities, the social sciences, law, economics, business administration, applied mathematics, and sport.

Founded as an annex to the Sorbonne, Nanterre has, since the opening of the first building in October 1964, achieved a considerable place in the French and European universitary landscape. Nanterre is best-known for being the source of the 1968 movement, but has also made itself recognized in the scientific and literary domains.

If something goes wrong, there is no support system in place. I got seriously ill and had to come home for a month, and neither my home nor host university helped me in any way, or offered me advice. I got no compensation in my exams, which I failed, then had to work extra hard in the second semester to make up the marks. Also, photocopy every official document you have at least 10 times, and bring a lot of passport photos, you need them for everything!

Personal recommendation:
The university itself isn't in a good area, but it's very accessible from Paris. There's a big international community, and there is a good sports centre on campus, with a swimming pool.



FINAL COMMENTS

I had a fantastic year, Paris is a beautiful city, but not the easiest Erasmus year going, academically or socially. The Irish College was a great place to meet people, but I should have moved out earlier to integrate better. Having said that, I'd do the year all over again if I could!

Personal recommendation:
not to go. i think that an international study experience is one of the best things anyone can do in their student life, but this University does not meet the minimum requierements in social or acadameic life, so I would tell people to go to a different parisian or french University.

If you realy want to know how France is, travel all around this marvellous country. paris is not representative of the whole France, so travel as much as you can. You'll never forget that.

Choose this university if you are interested in EU and international law.

Be careful when you are seraching an apartment:the demand is much higher than the offer and that allows to raise extremely prices.

Check all banks conditions before opening a bank account ( which is obligatory if u want to have many things there, because everything almost is through the bank ).

Enjoyable but wouldn't recommend staying there. There also lacked a lot of activities you might expect in other universities.

Buy a monthly metro ticket or indeed a carte imaginaire if you plan to stay for the year. Arrange your accomadation before arriving.
