HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Can be quite easy as an Erasmus student to just stick with Erasmus students, this was a really good way to meet French students and make sure i was speaking French.
Personal comments:
On campus accomodation is arranged, pretty basic but had friends living there so it was good to meet other students. Staying in Residence Ouest, the best on campus accomodation - one tram stop down from the university. Houses/Apts can be organised through Crous v dependent on your budget and can send you to some dodgey areas. I found mine through luck, a billboard sign and was lucky that my housemates turned out to be really nice as with houses anywhere. Facilites are basic. As basement apt it did have its cockroaches. Always try to live at least a floor, if not two floors up.

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Join EGUC - Ecole de Glisse with the university - organise cheap skiing trips, The Scotch Club - up in the hills three dance floor plus pool niteclub outside of Grenoble. Nightclubs dont have the same following as Ireland, but the Scotch Club is def a good university nightclub plus Le Chamois D'Or - cheap drink near University. Cafe No Name is a great local salsa bar. - check out nites of Salsa. Loads of good pubs in Grenoble town centre itself.

ACADEMIC       3.5 / 5
My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
Be aware that accounting, maths subjects do differ to your home country. I actually chose a mixture of subjects from different years which was v.good. Be aware that this is possible.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course
Overall
Personal comments:
The Erasmus representative is not the most helpful, just remember to talk to other Erasmus students and be aware that you can pick and choose your subjects as long as it is cleared with your home university.

Language difficulties
Social
KEY:
No problems.
I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
The problem can be that you may just hang out with Erasmus students who do prefer to speak English, it is another language for them to practise as speaking French, local language can be quite difficult with v different accents.Living with French housemates can help. Listening to French lectures can be v difficult at first and sometimes a struggle but just relax and you will be surprised at how much it becomes natural to stop translating.
