it take a while to master it. i had studied french for 10years before going to paris and was amazed at how much i didnt understand. the accents and speed of speech was something i wasnt used to. however i made french friends which helped immensly without them i doubt my standards would have improved so much.

Being immersed in French on a daily basis - from television to storekeepers to magazines - forced me to live mostly in French. My fluency increased, and the language became more second-nature and natural. Communicating became easier and I grew to improve in both written and spoken French.

It was pretty hard at the beginning because french people do not always have patience with foreign people but you get used to it. I would like to give an advise to all those students that are leaving. Don't be afraid of talking french, if you feel worried or if you think that the other person is going to make fun at your accent or whatever, you won't learn anything and you won't enjoy this great experience. Bring it on guys!

Most of the time I spoke English which was the language of instruction and the main language used among international students. Unfortunately, I could not practice French as much as I wanted to because it was difficult to get in contact with the local students.
