HOUSING
by Trine, Aarhus Universitet, Arhus, Denmark
Humanities, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Having lived in Geneva for a year before I began to study in Denmark, I still had some great friends there who helped me find accomodation. I shared the apartment with a great guy, who is now one of my closest friends.
Personal comments:
It is extremely difficult to find accomodation in Geneva, and I was informed by the university that they would not be able to help me in that regard. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
by Trine, Aarhus Universitet, Arhus, Denmark
Humanities, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
Having lived in Geneva previously, I was, of course, already familiar with the city and knew all the great night spots and cafés. In my opinion, the best cafés are the ones in la vieille ville where there is a great atmosphere. During the summertime, the lake is, of course, a favourite spot for most people. My favourite night clubs are Shakers in la Vieille Ville and la Sipe. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
I very much enjoyed my course on cinematography, which focused primarily on the screen adaptation of the works of Marcel Proust.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
As a new student in Geneva, it would have been nice to have had some more guidance. I actually found that exchange students were left a bit to their own devices. Fortunately, I already had many friends in Geneva, who either studied at the University or worked, and hence I always had somebody to turn to. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
The first time that I lived in Geneva, I spoke French fluently. However, having studied English for three years at my home university and in Limerick, I felt a need to go on an exchange to Geneva (although this is uncommon during one's minor subject) to brush up my oral French skills. I had to return to Denmark just before Christmas because I had examinations at my home university in January that I had studied for concomitant with my studies in Geneva. EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Other Other sources of funding:
I received a university grant Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
Because it was vital for me to spend time with my friends that I had not seen for four years. Moreover, I also met some new great friends who had never been to Switzerland before, and who therefore wanted me to show them around! Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food, Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Switzerland is quite expensive compared to many other European countries and it might be worthwhile to go to France for groceries if one has a car at one's disposition. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
