That my accommodation was to be based on the campus located many kilometres from the main University campus in the city

Not a good place to learn French, being an English speaker the Belgians were very enthusiatic about speaking English to me and this made it more difficult to acquire French naturally

The campus halls out in the suburbs were way too far away from the main University campus in the city, nightlife, facilities etc...
