I traveled more because I was studying abroad; food 9stduent cafeterias and in general) was cheaper because at American schools the meal plans tend to be required and quite pricey. the phoen tends to be more expensive in France.

Some bank machines refused my American credit/ATM cards. You have to buy insurance for your dorm room in France--this was a surprise to me.

Lots of great travel deals--for example, I went to Venise for the carnival with hotel, bus transport, etc included for less than 800 FF. Great nightclub at Place Stan--le Club des Roi (danced with my future husband there!); irish cafe is fun but expensive. Don't miss le 14 Juillet in Nancy, or the parade of Pere Noel. Both fantastic, unrivaled even by Paris!

Housing
Type of housing: dorm
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The dorm (Boudonville) was not very clean, and the kitchen area was frequently locked. In addition, the cleaning women would sometimes enter my room without permission.

Personal comments
The accommodation was not on-campus, it was next to it (no "on-campus" dorms in French universities). Boudonville was disappointing from an American standpoint; even on the weekends no noise was tolerated at all--impossible to have any get-togethers in the room, etc. The kitchen was often locked, and the directrice was, in my opinion, discriminatory against American stduents.
