Always make sure to have several copies of all documents, make sure you travel a bit and experience as much as possible while abroad. Take the opportunity to do some networking. Try to make friends with the LOCALS and make an effort to speak the language! Read Review

HOUSING
by Lina, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom

Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because that is where most of the friends you make will live and so your social life is a lot better.
Personal comments:
It was rather small but clean and proper. The area was not the safest either. One worried if one went out alone as it was so deserted during the evenings and weekends.

Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Personal comments:
i CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE CAFE BUT I KNOW IT IS NOT FAR FROM LA RUE DU GROS HORLOGE. THAT IS WHERE WE USUALLY MEET SOME NIGHTS ESPECIALLY DURING THE WEEK-END.i DID NOT GO OUT THAT MUCH. WE USUALLY HAVE PRIVATE PARTIES AT HOME.I TRAVELED A LOT BUT MOST OF MY PERSONAL EXCURSIONS WERE OUTSIDE OF FRANCE. THE HOST UNIVERSITY HAD ORGANIZED THE LOCAL TRIPS FOR US. I THINK THAT I HAD VISITED ALMOST EVERYTHING THERE IS TO SEE AROUND PARIS, FROM THE EIFFEL TOWER TO MONT SAINT MICHEL TO THE LOIRE CHATEAUX.

Overall
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
Personal comments:
i was amazed to discover when i came back home that i have forgot a bit of my formal french (that i knew before going to France) and i had instead learned a lot on everyday vocabulary and i ended up communicating well in french only with 500 (let's say) common words and expressions!

Personal comments:
CAF-Caisse d'ALlocations Familiales, will contribute towards rent and all the hassle of getting it is worth it in the end!

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
IT IS JUST LIKE IN THE US, THE LOCAL STUDENTS DO NOT INTERACT WITH FOREIGN STUDENTS. I HAD TO MAKE A LOT OF EFFORTS TO GET TO KNOW FRENCH STUDENTS.
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
IT IS NICE, THE ADMINISTRATION AND THE STUDENT WERE EASYGOING.

FINAL COMMENTS

I THINK EVERY STUDENT SHOULD SPEND A SEMESTER OR A YEAR ABROAD. IT WAS VERY ENTERTAINING. I DID NOT FEEL THAT I WAS GOING TO SCHOOL BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT AS MANY TESTS AND QUIZZES AS IN THE US. I WISH I HAD TRAVELED MORE BOTH INSIDE FRANCE AND IN EUROPE. SO BRING A LOT OF MANEY AND HAVE FUN!
