Pub Solferino for televised sport and partying, O'Shannons, the Manoir are both good bars, IPN and anywhere on the rue de la verrerie for clubbing. Orienté lovely chilled out oriental tea salon, must see any cafés on Cours Mirabeau, market in Place Richelme, Sainte-Victoire mountaine, Les Agapes provencal restaurant... the whole place really.

The Cité Université de Cuques was basic at best but incredibly cheap. It is sufficient for my needs and well located for access to the city centre. My criticisms would be that the kitchen facilities were awful and it was an intimidating environment for females. Having said that there was a "Resto U" on site that was very reasonable. I would recommend it for it's value for money.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work
Personal spending habits
Food, Housing and Nightlife are all cheaper in France than in England. I spent more on my phone simply as I had a pay as you go French simcard as opposed to a contract, and spent a lot on transport as I travelled extensively, in town however transport on buses is very reasonable.

Don't repeatadly withdraw cash from an English bank card, open a French bank account and transfer large sums into that. Also buy a French phone SIM card.

Academic
Course recommendations
Avoid the Maths based classes as they use different notation. Marcoeconomics courses such as Economie Internationale or something Histoire de la Pensée Economique are quite international student friendly.

Less classes of pure dictation (although they are amazingly good for your French!), and better ran exams.

Personal recommendation
The English and French University Systems differ greatly, this institution has room for improvement but by French standards is good. Having said that outside of the university I wouldn't change anything else about Aix or the region for the world, its a fantastic place.

Final comments
Make the most of the region, there is so much to do you will never fit it all in so don't waste time before exploring it. Give Marseille a chance it doesn't deserve the reputation it has, go to Notre Dame De La Garde and you'll see what I mean... spectacular!! Make an effort to mix with the local students and not just the other international ones, it will pay off in the end.

After the first few weeks when lectures were daunting we all adapted fine and we perfectly capable of doing the exams in French at the end of the year. Socially my language skills and knowledge of slang and colloquial French improved no end.
