HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It's cheapest. Everybody does. Get to know a lot of people!
Personal comments:
If you choose for a residence, you pay a lot more and it's more difficult to get to know people. The majority of local and foreign students share flats. IMPORTANT: there are flats enough (especially in september). Don't get stressed if you don't have a flat after 5 days. Don't take the first flat you can get. Don't be afraid to spend 3 days longer in your youth hostel; you'll probably find better/cheaper flat! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities, Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
You have to see Valencia's "barrio Carmen", where you can find lots of bars and cafes and dance clubs. If interested in sports, attending a soccer game at the Mestalla stadium (Valencia CF) is a must. After the game, go to one of the bars that are spread throughout the city. Nightlife starts at around 12. Favorite places: "Woodstock", "Warhol" some places on the Avda. de Aragon. To hang out, swim and play beach volleyball, go to the main beach. If you can, make sure to be there in March for the "Fallas", the greatest festival I have ever been to! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
You should definitely know some Spanish before you go, because almost all of the classes are given in Spanish only.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Make sure you settle all the organizational matters (i.e. evaluation of what you do in Valencia at your home university) before you go. It will be hard to explain to the Spanish profs what kind of certificates you need back home, so talk to them as soon as possible about that. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Personal comments:
Al principle is a little dificil to relate and communicate with persons that live in a different culture to yours, in my case the Spain culture, a new social environment and a new academin system. But after some time I began to understand the new "norms" of contact and to value a great deal more the new conceptions that this new culture can contribute to my life and also in professional career. Food in Spain is a bit cheaper than in Finland and at times we ate out which is about the same as in Finland. Phone costs were a lot higher than in Finland ( do not make phonecalls, send SMS, sim card costs quite a lot). I paid about 190€/ month for living including all the expenses (gas, electricity, water). When going out I realised Finland is more expensive but some bars in here might have an entrance fee of about 12€ (inlc. one free drink). I spent a lot of time for travelling as it is so cheap to fly to other European countries from heer and also the train in Spain is not very expensive (shorter distancies). Food, Travel, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Overall: was the same price as at home. Nightlife, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Use Vueling for travelling...I recommend renting a car if u r planning a trip to Andalucia. We did a five day trip to Andalucia by car and enjoyed it a LOT!! I used the metro in Valencia most of the time (5,60/10 trips) and to the uni I went by bike which I bought from here (from Mestalla u can buy used ones, or new ones from Alcampo).
