Alicante is a great place and it is close to Madrid and Barcelona. Be sure to save money and meet people, so that you can visit these cities with them to lower the cost and have fun. Read Review

Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? At first I lived with a host family, then I moved out to a flat. It saved a lot of money and I got to meet other Spanish students and live with them. Re
Personal comments:
The housing that the university provides is okay. My host family was great; however, the price was a little too much. The only problem is they take forever to get anything done, which is normal for Spain.

Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Mulligans Bar targeting Erasmus student is always a good place to meet many international students. Join AEGEE and attend language exchange meeting (German-French-Italian-English-Spanish-Japonese-Chinese are the most common languages). Amazing activities calendar organised monthly by the university http://www.csidiomas.ua.es/actividades/agenda. Free Salsa lesssons Mondays at Havana.

My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
The choices of courses are good, however I feel strongly that there should be more interaction between students and teachers. Also doing more projects for some aubjects would be good as it gives students a better understanding of the subject as well as applying the strategies and content.

My opinion of the university assessment

Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course

My conversation skills have also progressed as i am able to hold good conversations with people.

Personal spending habits:
I wanted to travel in Spain, so that is what I did. What can I say, it is Alicante, so I did spend more on Nightlife. In my home uni. there are only a few bars none like the ones in Alicante!
Travel, Nightlife: was more expensive than at home.
Food, Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
If your parents have an account with Wachovia, as a studnet you get 4 free non-Wachovia ATM withdrawals. This saved a lot of money and it was so easy to convert dollars to euros.

I wish I had known...
It is the third biggest ERASMUS city in Spain (according to my spanish friends) therefore there is an immense number of international students, for those wanting to really explore the spanish culture it is most likely you will explore more other cultures.
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
Study at the University of Alicante as it is one of the most modern, beautiful universities in Spain with lots of activities organised for its students and a fantastic variety of courses including sports.

FINAL COMMENTS

Sign up for the Erasmus Spanish course for only 30EU take both courses with local students and international students. Take advantage of sports activities as I did by taking Judo, Water sports(surf, wind surf, rowing, kayaking etc), Beach Volleyball and lots of travelling. If you are looking for accomodation this is the best website to find flats in alicante by the beach or near the centre (I reccomend living near plaza de los luceros or plaza de toros) https://aplicacionesua.cpd.ua.es/anuncios/default.asp?idioma=es Finally enjoy the great weather(around 300 sunny days per year), beach and cultural interaction of such an amazing city.
