Food in Alicante was extremely cheap. The telephone obviously adds up when you are making calls cross continental instead of within the same country. Accomodation is unbelievably cheap if you go through the university. But, I recommend not going through a program if you want to save money. My friends who went through a program are spending $5,000 more than I because I applied directly. The reason I am spending more on travel is because I choose to travel to other countries and cities in Spain on the weekends. Overall, Spain is quite cheap and it will be difficult to go back to the states and pay the prices that we seem to be stuck with there. Travel, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
DON´T GO THROUGH A PROGRAM. APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE HOST SCHOOL. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Food is much cheaper in spain - cost of living is way below that of Britain. Most calls I made were international - made with a Eurodirect phonecard - but spent quite alot this way, also I normally text friends but it was expensive to do this internationally! Also I wouldn't normally travel that much at home - in spain i took advantage of my position and the accessibility to the country! Therefore this expenditure was irregular to normal living costs! Travel: was more expensive than at home. Overall, Telephone, Housing: was the same price as at home. Food, Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Carnet joven - you get discounts on public transport (Bonojoven - tam office), at the cinema and others! Also shop in Lidl in San Vicente - it's economical and really not as bad as everyone thinks! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I spent more on accommodation, because my host family charged a bundle for me to stay there. But if you live in an apartment on your own or with other students, it is a lot cheaper. When I was there, they didn't have the euro yet, so clothes and travel, etc. were generally cheaper. I loved shopping there! Food, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife, Overall: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
You can save a lot of money by walking. Almost everywhere in Alicante is within 30 minutes walking distance. I walked to the beach almost every day after class. It burned off calories and was a fun walk anyway along the coast and past all of my favorite stores! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

The exchange rate was the main reason I spent more on food and other necesities, but other than that the pricing was not that different. Traveling was cheaper because the flights and train tickets are cheaper than in the United States and I took advantage of that and was able to visit many countries in Europe. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Housing: was the same price as at home. Travel: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The cost of renting an apartment surprised me because it is much cheaper than in America. Howewer, utilities can be vey expensive so saving water/energy is very important. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I wanted to travel in Spain, so that is what I did. What can I say, it is Alicante, so I did spend more on Nightlife. In my home uni. there are only a few bars none like the ones in Alicante! Travel, Nightlife: was more expensive than at home. Food, Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.

If your parents have an account with Wachovia, as a studnet you get 4 free non-Wachovia ATM withdrawals. This saved a lot of money and it was so easy to convert dollars to euros. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

At home I lived with my parents, so accomodation and food for 'free'. Telephone because I had to stay in contact with friends etc. Nightlife because I travelled within Spain to see some more than only Alicante. Nightlife, was cheaper because the prices are lower in Spain, although I partied more than I would do at my home University. Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.

Food is much more expensive than in England, although you can eat great spanish food out for very reasonable proces. The Erasmus life lends itself to spending a fair amount on nightlefe etc... Food, Travel, Overall: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
