Description:
Coming to its 5th centenary soon, the old "Estudi General de València" initially dedicated to the study of medicine, humanities, theology, and law has become a modern European university today. Given the wide range of studies offered as well as its human dimension, the University of Valencia is one of the largest, oldest, and most varied Spanish universities.

HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? The best way to immerse into the culture and language of the country
Personal comments:
There was not much university accomodation and is usually more expensive than renting independently. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
FALLAS is not to be missed. The best fiesta that takes place in Valencia! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Insure that your university at home liase with the host university as there was not much organisation when I went to abroad and I was left to organise everything with no help.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
There are no improvements that can be made at the host university. The student must accept that different countries have different ways of teaching and assessing and it is these that you have to come to terms with. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
It was very hard as my language skills were limited. However I was living with Spanish students and taking Spanish classes at the host university, a combination of these factors has increased the level of my Spanish immensely. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
I spent less because of the good exchange rate of the pound against the peseta. I travelled around most of the country in the year and went out every weekend. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
If you have the opportunity to got to a foreign country, Spain in particular, then enjoy yourself as much as you can. It is much cheaper than the UK and it will be a shock when you get back to the UK and having to pay lots more for everything! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
The beauroracy that exists in Spain and then to able to deal with it! In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
If you are studying at the Science faculty decide whether it is important to you to live near the city centre or near the faculty. The faculty of Sciences is in the outskirts of the city and you can feel that you are missing out on living in the city centre. FINAL COMMENTS
The experience was amazing. My language skills were not very good when I went to the host country but I got through it! There are hard times but the good ones definitely over ride them! Go and enjoy yourself... I did! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
