Universiteit Antwerpen (UA)

Universiteit Antwerpen, Universiteitsplein 1, B-2610 Antwerpen, Belgium
4.20 / 5 based on 96 reviews.
Description:
The University of Antwerp is unique in its form. It consists of three university institutions, the uniqueness arising from the fact that two of its three 'arms' have an entirely different history and background: the Universitair Centrum Antwerpen (RUCA) is state owned, whereas UFSIA (Universitaire Faculteiten Sint-Ignatius te Antwerpen) is a private university, founded by the Jesuit fathers. The third arm is the pluralistic Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen (UIA). Both UFSIA and RUCA were originally founded in 1852 and acquired university status in 1965.

Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I enjoyed living in an apartment on my own because it made the experience of living abroad seem that much more real to me.
Personal comments:
I visited the university dorms many times and it was always really fun to meet people from so many different countries. The campus dorms were nice and I could have very easily lived happily in them. My apartment that I found on my own was in a great location and very near the campus. I loved living there and would definatly do it all over again.

Personal comments:
The best night spots were De Prof and the Swa!! There were so many good places to eat. The trianon, Oliver's sandwich shop, and the Italian place near the train station.

It was difficult at first but after spending a few weeks in Antwerp, everything became much easier. Most people at least know english there so it really is not hard to communicate with others.
