HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: A room exchange
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why? I had a great experience there!
Personal comments:
We lived in a building (2min from the university) full of foreign students. We had big rooms for 2 (34 m2) with kitchen & bathroom inside. And laundry in the basement of the building. It was just perfect! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Don't miss the Kriterion just in front of the faculty of economics, it's a great pub/cinema. The greatest pub in the world: the Gollem. Discos: Paradiso, Panama, etc. And so many other places... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Basic phrases Personal comments:
something amazing about the Netherlands (or at least Amsterdam) is that everybody there is fluent (almost biligual) in English, even the people working in the street or in the supermarkets. So you can do everything with English. The drawback is that you're not prompted to learn Dutch... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Government assistance An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
- housing was clearly not cheap, but since I come from Paris it was still cheaper for me to live in Amsterdam. Nightlife: coming from Paris, it also seemed very cheap to me. Food, Travel: was more expensive than at home. Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Nightlife, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Furniture: in Amsterdam, you can easilly find furniture in the street (for free) of course it's in a bad state but when you spend 10 months in a student room, you're happy to have a free sofa, bedside table, armchair... Tip: instead of buying food in the supermarkets such as AlbertHeijn (expenseive) rather go to markets. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
