Type of housing: apartment shared with three other students
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?

Personal comments
I stayed a couple of evenings with the students that lived in a dorm, they partied all night long. Nice to have, but not compatible with serious studies.

Personal social experience
Personal comments
Amsterdam speaks for itself. Depends on personal interest. Drugs and parties are not my life. I really enjoyed the opportunity to row in a club on the Amstel though.

Academic
Course recommendations

In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Nice location but it is difficult to get in touch with locals. Amsterdam is filled with internationals from all over the world, do not expect to be something special.

Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies & career
Final comments
I did experience some prejudices because I am German. That was sometimes difficult and I did not expect that. Get yourself a bicycle on the first day. Never try to drive in that city.

Family
Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant

Personal spending habits
Amsterdam has more opportunities to spend money than my university city. And you want to travel as well. Accomodation is extremely difficult to find and very expensive.
