When you register for these courses, a proficiency level in English is required, so when I got there I was able to communicate and understand the professors easily. However, my English definetely improved in Oral skills and Listening Comprehension. I was able to use slang and phrasal verbs myself and not so many proper "Oxford-english" words. Besides, and due to my choice of attending a long course, my writting also got more agile, to the point that even back in the evening in my apartment, I jotted down the shopping list in English instead of in my mother tongue!! How about that? ha ha

If you match the level of English as foreign language that the University requires, you should not have communication problems. From my point of view, communication includes some aspects in addition to language communication. And my communication experience was very interesting.

English being an international language that I had studied for many years, there was no communication barrier related to this factor. However, one has to get used to the general differences in the way Europeans and American communicate.

I didn't improve my language skills too much, since I spent a lot of time with internationals and spoke quite well from the beginning on.

No problems, other than an odd blind spot Americans seem to have when it comes to understanding 'tuna' and 'cheese' in a British accent.

REVIEWS BY INTERNS AT University of California, Berkeley
Hard but fun
The research at Lawrence Berkeley is also one of the strongest and if you're into research like me, the STEM research opportunities are unbelievable. Nobel laureates and world famous scientists come here.
ABOUT
Berkeley's academic departments consistently rank among the top five in the USA. The faculty, renowed for both teaching and scholarship, includes seven Nobel Laureates and 18 MacArthur Fellows.
