Why? It is the best way to get to know other students.
Personal comments:
Did not receive any information from the University of Glasgow on how and when I should apply for the university accomodation. In the beginning of August 2002 I called the Accomodation Office and the International Office at the University of Glasgow and they told me that I should have applied for university accomodation before the end of July 2002. They told me to send my application by fax and I did that. Started to call the Accomodation Office every week and finally they found a twin room for me. I had to share the room (big!) with a Spanish girl. At first I was a bit nervous about sharing a room with a person that I did not know but everything went fine and we never had any problems with each other. The student appartement was for four persons and a Chinese girl and a Brittish girl was also living there. The house was an old beautiful victorian house and it was close to the university. Why? Because of the people you can meet from every part of the UK and from every part of Europe. The campus is a place where the cultural exchange is easy and where you can find better accomodation with all the University facilities
Personal comments:
The accomodation at the University of Glasgow is very well provided for people coming for more than 6 months. A period of study of one or more years or a Master are recommended to find the best accomodation, possibly starting from september. The University offers a lot of campus flats and apartaments to be shared among students with all comforts. Life is agreeable and nice, so you can fully enjoy your staying in Glasgow This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? I had to change dorms mid term so I was in two different ones (I was the only one and party it was my own fault so its not common practice to move people like that). I met some great people in the dorms, the location was excellent. It was an easy way to get into the social life.
Personal comments:
The first housing was a great facility. The second I was in had a better social life and excellent location. Most international students are in the dorms. However, in some of the university housing there is a great deal of freshers (age 17-18) but not in all of them. The price is decent, less than in Milan anyways. Why? As an Erasmus sudent it is great to be living on campus as you are in direct contact with other european and international student. For me the Erasmus experience is about being immersed in another culture and learning about others. Living on campus is the perfect solution.
Personal comments:
I was quite happy about the student halls. Most of the places offer a wide range of facilities. You have the choice between undergraduate or postgraduate accomodation. Some rooms are en-suite. You have to book early to be able to choose a suitable accomodation as there is a limited number of place available. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? Because it has been great staying with other students and sharing our culture each other; also during the studying time we made experiences together and it was a moment to learn different ways to behave on the same problems.
Personal comments:
There was an Accomodation Office where you could catch the right addresses and keep contact with private or public structures. When I arrived on January there were few problems to find an accomodation at the Campus because most of the rooms were booked since September; so i've had just few days at one of the University Accomodation and the I moved away. Why? I like company, but also to have my own space. I think that this kind of accomodation allows both of these things.
Personal comments:
Even if I could expres some complains, at the end the accomodation that Glasgow University provided to me was exaclyt what I needed. Close to the university, not far from the city centre and above all close to all my friends. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? it´s close to the uny and the city center. I know people living there. It´s also not very expensive
Personal comments:
The service was good and the facilities were ok, we had internet, Tv and doctor. The only problem was that my place was to far from the uny and the city center. But I have very good time there and I meet a lot people and this what I wanted This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? For convenience, and safety (no need to travel at night).
Personal comments:
I stayed at Wolfson Hall, part of uni accommodation. However, it was quite some distance away from campus, so was not that convenient. In fairness, it was the only accommodation available which was catered and offered in-room internet access. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? Because I wouldn't have to share a toilet and kitchen with four other people.
Personal comments:
The room I was assigned to was very spacious, and the toilet and kitchen were a couple of steps away from the room. It was easy to meet people in the building because most people would hang out in the common rooms. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? Live in the dorms and you can meet a lot more people.
Personal comments:
I was one of the few students who were put into a flat. At first, I thought it was nice cause the room was the size of a swimming pool but the beauty wore off after I realized that I would have to put a big effort into meeting people. The accommodation office put me in the flat because someone moved out of it the previous semester and when I met the other people who lived in the flat, I quickly found out why this person was so desperate to leave. I don't blame the accommodation office for this because they could not have known of the situation and it's not their job to care. I'm just bitter from the housing experience and I hope noone else has to go through the same thing. The problem was that the only way I could move out of the accommodation was to either a.) find someone else to take my place or b.) keep paying for the rent as I pay rent for another place. Since both choices were not options for me, I stuck it out. When I first signed up for this housing, the letter said that they could not guarantee me another place if I did not take this offer but I soon found out that there was plenty of room in Maclay (rumour has it that it's closing). I've met a few other students who lived in a flat arranged by the university and they had a great time because they all became friends with the entire building and had at least 6-8 people in their flat. I had 3 flatmates at first but another one couldn't take it either so decided to keep paying for the rent and move out to another place. What I was left with was hell on earth. Fun for me. To add to that, the flats have no access to computers (outside of the library and the reading room) or television. The only plus? It was near the university and the city centre. I realize that my experience is a rarity, but it seems like others also think the accommodation office is not as responsible or efficient as it could be. Another reason why I was "forced" to stay at the flat was because the office did not notify me about whether or not I had accommodation until 2-3 weeks before I left for Glasgow. My suggestion would be to sign up as early as possible. If you can, even try to sign up before you find out whether or not you have been accepted into the school (because that department is slow to respond as well). Or maybe it was not the University of Glasgow but my home university who had a hand in this. Who knows. Where was this dreadful place I stayed in? Park Circus. Great place, but not a place to meet a lot of people and when I was there, a lot of robberies and break-ins occurred.... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? because you can really feel a student atmosphere but, at the same time, you can understand what does it mean living alone
Personal comments:
the university accomodations are ok, even if they look like hospitals sometimes :-) ;at the beginning i stayed into a university accomodation cause i preferred to have an accomodation just from the first day of my experience; even if i'm really flexible, i think it was too expensive (270 £ for a shared room) but really well located (4 minutes walking from the department!!!) Why? The apartments are beautiful and huge for a reasonible price. You can also get some great locations in the city center or in the West End near the University
Personal comments:
At first I stayed in Murano Street Village...fine for meeting other foreign students but location could have been more ideal. It was a bit far from school, clubs, city center, etc. Then I found a great student apartment in Hill Head (arranged by the university that was great) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? Because they're much more controlled and you don't have to fear about landlords who are trying to screw you.
Personal comments:
I would actually advice, even though sometimes it's very difficult, to go to the place and take a look there, without booking from your home country. Especially in Great Britain!! My house was extremely cold and in very bad conditions, but i could only do so and go there because the campuses accomodations usually accept you if you remain an entire year.
