The rent for student accomodation was was the double than in Finland. The food at the University was also more expensive( and worse) so I cooked a lot at home.Nightlife was definitely cheaper than Finland, for example cinemas and pubs.

In economics they are not as theoretical and mathematical as at my home university. I learned a lot but in another way than at my home university. We had to write a lot of essays which was a new experience for me. At my home uni we have exams all the time were we have to count quite a lot. It was not as stressful as at my home uni.

Overall
I wish I had known...
The last application date for the student accomodation. A lot of students were not able to get student accomodation. I was lucky although I was not really satisfied with how the accomodation office worked.

Did not receive any information from the University of Glasgow on how and when I should apply for the university accomodation. In the beginning of August 2002 I called the Accomodation Office and the International Office at the University of Glasgow and they told me that I should have applied for university accomodation before the end of July 2002. They told me to send my application by fax and I did that. Started to call the Accomodation Office every week and finally they found a twin room for me. I had to share the room (big!) with a Spanish girl. At first I was a bit nervous about sharing a room with a person that I did not know but everything went fine and we never had any problems with each other. The student appartement was for four persons and a Chinese girl and a Brittish girl was also living there. The house was an old beautiful victorian house and it was close to the university.

Glasgow is full of nice pubs. A student association arranged pub nights for international students every thursday. The same association also arranged a lunch every thursday for international students. Trips in Scotland was also arranged quite often.
The university had good sports facilities at the campus;swimming pool, squash, gym, aerobic, step, boxing, circuit training etc several times a day. And all this for only 20 pounds a year! There was also a lot of different students associations, for example
the Mountaineering Club, a Diving Club etc.
