Personal spending habits
The room for me was cheaper as in France I live in a private one room flat. The food is not expensive especially at the university cafeteria. The traveling was easy and there are cheap prices for students for the bus and train network. than you can take the boat and go to Estonia or Stockholm. for the nightlife, entries for students are cheap in students parties and you get cheap price as well if you go to the opera for example.

you have to pay all your bills by wiring through bill machine or internet but only through finnish bank accounts. That means that you have to open a bank account, it is compulsory.

Course recommendations
There are some courses for which you have to apply on-line otherwise you are not accepted but these are more for local students studying in finnish. Nevertheless sometimes you have to register well in advance (in december for the spring semester). anyway you always can go and see the lecturer for more information or send an e-mail, they are very helpful!

Final comments
Helsinki is a very good city for a foreign student. It is the capital and at the same time not too big, you don't get lost. So for people wanting to live in the city and having the nature nearby that is the place to go. The winter is cold but you find easily things to do to enjoy it! Finnish people at the ESN network did a really great job to organise events and to make us feel at home.

In Helsinki, you have the Vanha Café that is linked with the student union of the university. The ESN student meet there every tuesday night. Then you have the irish pub Molly Malone near from the railway station, great live music! you have too the restaurant-bar and disco Copacabana for those who like latin music. By the sea as well you have a nice café called Ursula, in the Kaivo puisto. there are some events like Sankta Lucia parade the 13th of december, during christmas the lights of Aleksanterikatu. An important event for students is the Vappu on the 1st of may, after having party the students go for a picnic in the Kaivopuisto. For the discos I like Kaarle12 and Ostrobothnia. There are museums and Ateneum(art modern) and Kiasma are worth to be seen.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I was living in a student house in the center of Helsinki called Domus and I shared a flat with another exchange student. It was near from the university, you could walk for going anywhere.

I was really surprised to get such a nice flat in such a good location. There was a well furnished kitchen and in each room already the main furnitures.
