In spite of the favorable euro-dollar exchange rate housing is still more expensive than in Austria. The price level at the bars around campus is very low (probably due to the high competition between bars). Wireless telephone systems are backward compared to Europe and rather expensive. Local calls via landphones are free. Calling via the Internet (Skype) becomes an important way of communication (especially for making calls to Europe). The main reason for an overall increase of expenditures compared to the usual way of living is travelling. Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food: was the same price as at home. Nightlife, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Almost everything is paid by credit card. This seems to be a good idea as it is cheaper than withdrawing cash. If cash is withdrawn, I'd recommend withdrawing a large ammount at once (due to the ATM fees) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I had no telephone connection -> no costs As I live with my family at home, of course the cost for accommodation were new for me and being abroad should be used to travel around -> more costs for travelling Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. travelling is costly in the US, housing too, other than that i didn't have a phone (okay, therefore i spent less, but the best is that a beer is usually only 2 bucks! I spent more money in the US because back home I used to live with my family therefore I had no big expenses. And in the US I was living on my own, so I had to pay for everything. As I still live with my familie I do not have to pay for food or housing. I spent mor for telephone or travel as it is more expensive to call from the US to Austria than to talk on the phone within Austria. Moreover I travelled a lot. I love travelling so I had to see nearly everything. I traveled a lot. Additionally shopping in outlets is cheap, but if you buy a lot then it becomes expensive (I recommend the outlet in Aurora!)
