Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Bernburg, Germany
Business Studies, Undergraduate, Erasmus
Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Even though the house, that I lived in was great, the distance to the university was quite long. Therefore, I would rather live on campus next time.

Whether you want to live in the university residences or privately depends on your needs. If you live in a house, like I did, be aware that you live there with other people. On the one hand, this is an opportunity to learn more about other cultures (if they are not yours) and you can improve your language skills. On the other hand you have to find compromises in cleaning, volume of music etc. If I lived in a shared house again, I would make sure that my flat mates are in the same semester like I am - it makes things easier, believe me. Students in the first semesters tend to have more parties, students in their final year are more serious with their studies.

Final comments
It was a very good experience. I did not only study at the universty but did an internship during the semester break. Thus, I could really get to know the English culture. If you stay at the university only, you'll probably meet more international students than English. Studying there was great - very independent. I simply loved it. The city itself is not too beautiful. There are many nice areas nevertheless. Maybe too few green spots. High unemployment rate and therefore the crime rate is high, too.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Personal savings
Other sources of funding:
Government assistance<br> A private grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits
Rent, food and alcohol were cheaper than in Finland, hence the savings. I travelled quite a lot as travel expenses were lower than travelling from home. From Hull, it's especially easy and cheap to go to Holland. Hull University student travel agency was great!!!

I saved a lot in expenses by using Aldi (incredibly cheap grocery store). I bought huge amounts of food every fortnight.

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I would choose to stay at the same accomodation because I had a good experience in the first place, apart from the costs.

The accomodation services the university provides are alright, as they give addresses to students who want to organize their accomodation themselves. A bit more help from the home university would have been an advantage.

The day of the students was on Thursday in the disco of the town. You could go out another days but was full of english people and the enviroment was a bit difficult, so that days you could make parties in houses with other exchange students: was really nice
