Cafes - do not miss Planet Coffee (very good beverages and Starbucks atmosphere + near both universities) and the cafe at Hull University. Nightclubs depend on your taste of music. 'Spiders' is cheap and more on the dark side. The complete contrary is 'Lexington Ave' where you can dance to the latest charts and see a good 70s show. Includes a black area, too btw. Ice skating is quite good. A cultural must is city centre (the old part) - very nice. Do not forget to shop - Hull has a good shopping mall - cannot be compared with the ones in America but decent.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Even though the house, that I lived in was great, the distance to the university was quite long. Therefore, I would rather live on campus next time.

Whether you want to live in the university residences or privately depends on your needs. If you live in a house, like I did, be aware that you live there with other people. On the one hand, this is an opportunity to learn more about other cultures (if they are not yours) and you can improve your language skills. On the other hand you have to find compromises in cleaning, volume of music etc. If I lived in a shared house again, I would make sure that my flat mates are in the same semester like I am - it makes things easier, believe me. Students in the first semesters tend to have more parties, students in their final year are more serious with their studies.

Academic
Course recommendations
Strategic Management as well as European Business were great. Gives you a lot of insights in both theory and business of international companies. European Business deals more with the EU and its impacts on business. A must if you want to work in different countries in the EU.

It was a very good experience. I did not only study at the universty but did an internship during the semester break. Thus, I could really get to know the English culture. If you stay at the university only, you'll probably meet more international students than English. Studying there was great - very independent. I simply loved it. The city itself is not too beautiful. There are many nice areas nevertheless. Maybe too few green spots. High unemployment rate and therefore the crime rate is high, too.

The university is very international - Scandinavians, Spanish, French, Germans, Americans. It was very easy getting in contact with them. English students seemed a bit more reserved and kept 'to themselves' - at least at the university. It was easier to get to know some Brits in social life.
