University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC)

UNBC, 3333 University Way, Prince George, BC V2N 4Z9, Canada
3.89 / 5 based on 12 reviews.
Description:
When opened by Her Majesty the Queen in August 1994, UNBC was Canada's first wholly new publicly-funded university in 25 years. UNBC offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. While it engages in research of national and int'l significance, it has a particular mandate to serve the need of northern BC.

UNBC has an unusual history, being the result of a vigorous campaign by the people of northern BC for their own university. 16,000 northerners, in fact, paid to sign a petition to create the "University of the Interior". The UNBC Act, formally approving the creation of the University, was passed with all-party support in June 1990. Construction of the Prince George campus began in April 1992.
