HOUSING
by Guillaume, ESC La Rochelle, La Rochelle, France
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: A room exchange
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why? The experience of living with different persons and moreover with different culture is very interesting and help each other to get a feedback of his own personnality so that to make efforts to satisfy the community. Furthermore, the price is less expensive in England compared with the space found.
Personal comments:
The housing in Plymouth was very good, i was with 3 others room mates boys and a girl until december but I learnt a lot about myself, how I react in community and moreover how I manage conflicts between people in the same place. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Live with english students. There will be plenty of opportunity to get to know other international students. This way you can have the best of both worlds. You'll want to buy a wetsuit and go surfing. Make sure you get a Int'l drivers permit so you can rent a car and check out the country side and seaside villages. Take the ferry to Cornwall and hike the coastal path to the next town, have a pint and enjoy the view. Also: Jelly Jazz at the Quay Club and some special events on Union Street. Don't be afraid of Union Street, just take a cab. Start visiting the surrounding towns in Cornwall/Devon early - there is a lot to see. Join a club, but be sure they are organised - many are not. The ski club is pretty good. They meet every week in a pub and get together for at least one big ski trip. Football is well organised and I think the SUBA club is getting better (thanks to Seb, or course). This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
No, only the way how we interact with local students but I suppose that it is more or less the same in all university of Western Europe.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
The only improvement is actually in progress because of the restauration of the majors buildings and creation of a better sport center. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your English?
My level before: My level after: Personal comments:
My communication experience is quite various. there are many chances for me to speak English with international and local students when we got projects, presentation, social life. It is fantastic to exchange and share different experience and knowledge amongst peers. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
None Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
England is way more expensive, food, accomodation, going out, books everything. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
I was only staying for a half year. Most residences outside the campus require to sign a contract for a whole year. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
That there was a lot of private accomodation available. Easy to rent. English roomies. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Keep the library open longer. Better the Uni newspaper. FINAL COMMENTS
Increase your budget. It costs money to rent cars, travel, drink and be merry. You don't want to find yourself sitting at home because you don't have money to go out and get the experience you deserve. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
