HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because I got to know a lot of people from around the world, much more than I would have met when i had lived on my own.
Personal comments:
It was very useful that the university had organised the accomodation for us, the rooms were approximately 12 square metres with shared bathrooms, but that didn´t matter to me as it was just a question of a good organisation between the students, i never had any problem!

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
When we used to go clubbing, we usually went to the "Canal Club" or the "Light Bar", which was great fun as we were usually up to ten people. For a rather "quiet" night out, i would recommend bars or pubs, such as "The moon under water" or traditional English pubs.

ACADEMIC       4.5 / 5
My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
The English educational system is quite different to the one back in Austria, it is much more specialised, but I would definitely chose Marketing (which is also my special field of studies here in Austria) as it covers almost everything, from Global Marketing to strategies for small and medium enterprises in a local market.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course
Overall
Personal comments:
I have only had a limited insight into academic life, i would have really enjoyed staying in Wolverhampton for at least another semester, as the courses I chose were really interesting and I definitely would have liked to get to know more about how Marketing courses in England differ from those at my home university-as far as I am concerned, I was completely satisfied with the opportunities given to students.

Language difficulties
Social
KEY:
No problems.
I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
After 12 years of English at school and 3 at my home university, I was pretty sure that I would be able to communicate without any major problems -nevertheless, I was surprised by the fact that even specific literature or courses in Management Accounting didn´t cause any trouble. In the social life, you have to get used to a certain kind of slang, especially in the West-Midland area, but after a week, I was able to understand and communicate in the local slang (except from one guy who came from Dudley, whom I didn´t understand till the very end of my stay, but who wasn´t even understood by native speakers!)

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Other sources of funding:
None
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
Because Britain is generally more expensive than Austria, and as I wanted to make the most out of my time as an exchange student, i spent a lot of money on travelling (which was sefinitely worth it)
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Local supermarkets are generally very expensive in comparison to big inner-city shopping malls. Usually, clothes shops offer discounts for students - watch out for them!

Make sure you get a young person's railcard if you intend to travel a lot, it makes it much cheaper! On your first days at uni, normally a so-called "Fresher's fayre" will take place which provides you with helpful information and a lot of goodies as well...collect all the flyers you find as nightlife is huge in Britain, and it gives you the possibility to meet a lot of interesting people. Concerning the academic part, i would recommend consulting the internet for information and content of the courses offered and their compitability to your studies at your home university.
