HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Hotel for international students
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose:
Why? I would live where I did before, most of the students stayed there so we were all close, plus it was in a beautiful wooded setting.
Personal comments:
The rooms at the hotel were nice, they were 2 person rooms unless you requested a single. Even though I speak Polish it was useful that the staff at the hotel spoke in English. Washers and dryers, plus a nice kitchen were available to all students at the hotel. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Krakow is full of different dance clubs, cafes, and restaurants. The city center "the rynek" was my favorite part of the city, it was beautiful. It is a central city in Poland so it was easy for us at anytime to travel to other places either by train or bus. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Everything you could ask for in a summer study. There were interesting courses that students could attend simply for their benefit without a grade attached.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Honestly, you come to this program to take in the Polish culture and not to study. You will meet tons of people with similar interests to yours. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
Krakow is an educated city and thus people knew English for the most part. You can get by without knowing Polish. To really learn the language, be sure to hang out with Polish speaking people and/or frequent the downtown area on your own to practice usage. EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
value of zloty allows for trip to be inexpensive, ie. a typical beer at a higher class restaurant cost no more than the equivalent of 2 dollars and a meal at the nicest restaurant on the rynek costs 15 dollars. Telephone, Housing: was the same price as at home. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Buy a monthly pass for the tram and bus. Use your meal coupons too. Kababs are good, but they add up. same with alcohol at the bars. buy a bottle at the local sklep or drink at the piast bar before going out. it saves a ton. I ended up spending way more than expected just from these small expenses adding up; granted, i did go out for 6 weeks straight. Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I had known more about the living conditions in the student dorm I had booked through the ESN office in Crakow. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
There are many interesting and variyng courses to choose from and the professors are good. I recommend to approach the system with which it is operating with a great deal of patience. FINAL COMMENTS
there is plenty of travel opportunities to pther places in Poland and the the neighbouring countries. Tips: take the train because then you see much more of the beautiful landscapes. Go skiing further south, there are plenty of places to choose from. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
