I would suggest that although price levels differ within the categories the overall price level is pretty much the same as in Austia, main reason why I spent more money than at home where my housing expenses (location, downtown Toronto) Food, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.

Food is expensive here, plus the taxes kill you. Plus keep in mind the exchange rate, IF YOUR FAMILY IS SUPPORTING YOU FROM ABROAD THEN THEY HAVE TO SEND YOU ALMOST 3 TIMES what they want to send you, just check the exchange rates Food, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Housing: was the same price as at home. Travel, Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.

price levels vary within the categories, for example I made the experience that shopping in supermarkets is rather expensive while there are many fast food resaurants where you can eat very cheap, housing is defenitly more expensive although I also have to say that I lived downtown, which of course was rather expensive Food, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.

I spent more on food due to the cooking facilities on campus and the deluge of fast food on campus. Food: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
The academic strike was a surprise and required increased spending. As there were no classes it was best to enjoy the city and country. It would work out cheaper to move off of campus and live in a shared house, this would also give greater eating options and enable full enjoyment of the city.
