Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
At first I had problems to speak english and I was quite shy to speak it. And I didn't trust my skills. But after month or two I spoke it quite good and I wasn't nervous any more. And now I know that it's not so important to say right way things, more important thing is that I can communicate and I understand what people are saying to me. I realized how low is the english level in Spain. At the beginning i had really problems to follow a normal conversation, but with the help of the university (by free english courses) and the social life I have acquired a level to talk fluently and to understand nearly all. In Ireland the English is native language. I already had to have a good command of English to be able to get the Erasmus Scholarship. First it was a little bit difficult to understand the Irish because they have accent, and they speak fast. After I got used to it. At AIT we studied general and Business English, so I studies a lot of new things. And with the other students I used English, so my communication skills in English is very good now. The language of communication was definetely English. We had to use it every day, every single moment and this helped me a lot in expressing myself in a new environment. The international students and the teachers were approachable any time and this gave us a perfect opportunity of discussing anything we might be curious about.
