HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? My current accomodation contract with DTU will finish by July 2006. They can not provide housing for more than 1 year for international students. So far I have registered with the waiting list of some other dormitories/student hostels. But the waiting time is 9 moths-1 year. Thus, I assume that I have to experience a temporal time renting/share an apartment after June 2006.
Personal comments:
I have no complaints about the provided facilities. There is only one thing that sometimes annoys me. We share the kitchen and take care of cleaning the disks ourselve. Sometimes people get lazy and forget to do that after parties. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
There are so many things to see in Copenhagen, or in Denmark. I just make a list about my first thoughts: 1. There was a bar for international students+IAESTE trainees every tuesday in Kćlderbar. It was just great. 2. I liked kollegium parties, which were quite often on schedule. In Egmont, there was a thursday bar every week, and there were other parties all the time. Especially the ones we had to dress in. 3. Park cafe 4. Europa cafe 5. Mokka cafe 6. So many small bars 7. And I learned playing Backgammon in Denmark, and I can't stop playing it. My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Because my home university was just for "undergraduates" while DTU only had a combined undergraduate/graduate program, I made a mistake in choosing some of my classes because I ended up taking courses that were WAY beyond my level but it really could not have been avoided; the set-up up highschool vs. Danish gymnasium and then university is quite different in the two schools/nations.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Make sure you don't goof off during the semester since there's only ONE exam (for most classes) at the end of the course... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Few times in Danish institutions people refused to talk with me in English. They told me that they are in Denmark and the national language is Danish and they don't have to use English.Generally in other cases I didn't have any problems with communication This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I spent more in food, telephone and housing because the cost of the life in Denmark is quite expensive. In travel, because I only had five months to discover a country that I didn't kown before. Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife: was the same price as at home.

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Danes are not "cold people", but is important to have in mind that is harder to get closer to them then to a south european. People should not give up from what they get in the first impression. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Every service works in a very good way. It was only sad that not all the students could experience living inside the campus, which is great. FINAL COMMENTS
regarding the university itself everything works well. The international students have acess to all facilities, there are lots of courses teached in english, etc. Denmark is a great country to live for a foreinger, everyone speaks english, there is a health system that can provide all the health cares for free. Is also a country where people have, generaly, a liberal mentalety and that is good when we are not from there. Geographicly, Denmark is in a good position if people are planing to travel around. Is very easy to travel around the nordic countries (scanrail is a good way to do it); there are ferries to several countries, namely germany, the baltic countries, Poland, Norway, etc. The cheapest way to travel usualy is by bus, is easy to find trips for almost all the countries in Europe and book them online in www.eurolines.dk. Also inside Denmark are great places to see, with great landscapes, is really a beautiful country! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
