HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I'll change the kind of room. I guess it could be better a "studio"
Personal comments:
the University has no residence for its students....

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Personal comments:
south pole(Ice skating) I didn't like the atmosphere of GEM, Grenoble is a real Universitarian city but unfortunally GEM didn't interect with others universities of the city... They prefer to organize parties "from the school to the school". The big problem is that after two months you'll gaing out always with the same people. Classes and night life won't be so different so.... And you'll see that french students are a little bit "strange"

ACADEMIC       1.5 / 5
My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
the courses at GEM are very particular... Their level is very basic, and actually you won't study anything. Lectures are very strange 'cause all french students use their laptop, to chat, see movies, listen music and write some mails, but nobody will pay attention to the professor. The professor are seeing like fools... Nobody can fail an exam, the problem is that nobady can get notes from 16 to 20... I didn't understand why... Even if you study very hard you'll get 14, so it is better to study just a little and to enjoy ski ;)

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course
Overall
Personal comments:
maybe the professors have to start to teach... and to give to the students notes for what the students have learn, and not just because they have payed 9000 euro per year.

Language difficulties
Social
KEY:
No problems.
I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
french people don't like very much foreign people... It is better to be very patient when you meet down a street local people or you need any information. If you don't speank a perfect french, they'll look at you like if you are an "inperfect"

KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Personal savings
Other sources of funding:
MIBP grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
I don't know exactly. By the way, for the phone... if you go in france and are you planning to use "Orange" like selfphone operetor, change immidiatelly your mind... it is very expensive, much better SFR.
Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home.
Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
burocracy is "french". When you get GEM, the international office will try to ask you all the kind of assurances, if you insist a little bit and you are european, you don't need all those assurance. Pay attention
