HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? The on campus life allows exchange students to really get a feel of the people there. I met 5 of my best friends from living on Res, and I am going back to see them soon!
Personal comments:
The flats were cleaned once every 6 weeks or so, so the rest of the time, all of the flatmates were responsible for cleaning...which didn't happen very often. The RAs attempted to get us to keep the flats clean with a duties delegation list, but no one in my flat stuck to it. Other flats, however, were spotless. I think it was just the people that I lived with. The accomodations office was very helpful in any matters that I needed resolved. Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
I loved to go to the Victory on Thursday nights (buy one get one free!), Fridays (beautiful view and something to do for everyone), and Murphy's (a great bar with live music every night. The Down Under Bar was also a great place to go just to dance, have fun, and meet "interesting" guys. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Coming from the US, the class set up was a little strange to get used to (everything is due at once at the end of the semester, and you don't spend as much time in class). The courses also were very integrated to mix different subjects into the course, which is great, but is different from the US way of having strict single subject content for most courses.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Don't slack off in the beginning because you have nothing to do until the last 6 weeks. I wish I would have kept up with my studies all along so that I wasn't so swamped at the end. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Other Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings A private grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
The costs of living are higher than in Germany, as well as the costs for accomodation and nightlife. I spend more money on travelling because there simply was so much to travel to! Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
If you arrive in time and before the most of the other international students come, you can save a lot of money to buy second hand stuff from other students. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Nothing in particular. You have to be responsible enough to care about yourself, be open minded, and obey all the rules. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I would recommend to undertake a good academic writing course before start your program FINAL COMMENTS
Combine your studies with a part time job is a good idea to make some extra cash if you wish to travel around Australia. Ask for a GO CARD for students you will get great discounts when using public transport. Read some local newspapers before you arrive this will allow you to gain some knowledge about what is going on. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
