Personal comments:
Housing for international students provided by the university is most of the times more expensive than for locals. There are appartments called "WG" shared by students which can result cheaper and a very gratifying experience. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

travel by train is much expensivier in Germany than in Italy. Nightlife has a lot of possibilities to offer and can be cheap, but if you go downtown clubs and bars are rather expensive Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food, Telephone: was the same price as at home.

Food is much cheaper here. If you are a student you get a pass for all the local public transport. The accomodation was much cheaper than at home but then a bit more basic. The nightlife is cheap too. Clubs are usually free to get in but because you can stay out until 5am you tend to drink less over a longer period of time. I spent more on the telephone because I used a german mobile or payphone. It seems cheaper to get a land line installed, especially as they have special rates for students. (Check out one-tel) Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
If you are withdrawing money from an english account it is better to take out a large sum every so often rather than small amounts every few days. This way you incur less charges from your bank at home! If you don't want to carry large amounts of cash with you, open a bank account it is really easy once you have registered with the Uni and the Auslandsamt! I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
The cost of living here is cheaper so I tended to spend less on food and accomodation. The travel facilities are brilliant. The local transport networks are free with a student card and there are really good deals available both for journeys by bus and train. I spent less on a night out in Düsseldorf but tended to go out a lot more than I would at home, so on nightlife I spent about the same. Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
If you have the patience to wait for Deutsche Telekom, get a phone installed in your room, it saves alot of money in the long run. Beware of using english mobile phones abroad it gets very expensive! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
